My quest for World Domination hit a few roadblocks last month. Revenue was down everywhere where I’m currently making money, and I had some serious issues with my Directory Network. First, the summary:
Adsense: $21.56
Directory Submissions: $600
Blog posts (other blogs): $12
Total: $633.56
Not nearly as good as last month. Adsense was down, even though I had quite a few more impressions coming in from sites I added Adsense to. This blog makes mere pennies when it comes to Adsense. Directory Network submissions were down, as I had a lot of problems there - the main site was hacked and I had to upgrade to the newer version of eSyndiCat across all the directories. That was not a fun experience. I still need to get deeplinks for the upgraded version, which that mod is hopefully out this week. After that, the sites still need work done here and there, and I feel that I need a custom template. More work and more money to spend, sigh…
Lastly, I kicked off this whole quest right at the time Google decides to not update their toolbar Page Rank for the longest time ever. We’re still waiting, and it’s been over 4 months now. I realize chasing Page Rank is not The Answer, but link sales, link exchanges, directory submissions, and so many other money making efforts are directly or indirectly tied to Page Rank. I could really use at least one update before they do away with the Page Rank toolbar. At the very least, it would be an indicator of success for my efforts so far.
Despite these setbacks, my quest for World Domination will continue!

That’s all gross income, not counting hosting, paypal fees, etc. Still, not too shabby.
I’ve been spending money like crazy, and I’ve had to pull back a bit. SEOhosting runs a pretty penny each month, I bought the Directory Network, I’ve got a bunch of domain names from TDNAM, and I’ve been link building, plus a few odds and ends (which add up to a pretty penny themselves). I’ve got a total of 80 domains in my pocket, and it’s just too many to work with right now. I’ll probably have a domain sale here and/or on Digital Point. I could use the money for other things, I won’t get around to putting decent sites on them all any time soon, and someone else could use them. Even though I’ve got too many, I’ll be keeping most of them.

…and I made a whopping $6.21! That’s basically 14 days worth of Adsense exposure since I bought the site over at Digital Point and got everything live. No affiliate revenue yet, but I only had the affiliate links up for a few days, and I am getting a couple clicks in that direction. At this rate, it’s going to take awhile to achieve world domination…
I installed the Adsense Deluxe plugin for this blog, but…not sure how to activate the ads. Do I just post the code into each post? How do I get them into the sidebar if I want them? I think I may need the plugin/download specifically for Wordpress 2.1, but I got the impression that wasn’t necessary. I may hit up Andreas to see what’s what.
I’m still behind the power curve overall on Wordpress. For example, I don’t have a blogroll yet (how do I show it?), and those extra links (hosting, etc) are still showing up in the Meta list in the sidebar. I’ll get there…
So I logged into my Google adsense account last night and was delighted to see I earned $.09! 9 cents, whoohoo!
It’s ridiculous to be excited about 9 cents (I wouldn’t have felt the same way about finding a dime on the street), but it’s nice to know the website I recently bought is earning something. I also got a click today and earned $.20.
I’ve performed two calculations to project my return on investment:
If the average of the two days’ earning remains constant, and I make the same amount every day (on average) going forward, I’ll make my money back in a little over six years.
If the rate of increase in earnings remains constant (roughly doubling every day), I’ll be a millionare in about 22 days, and a billionare 10 more days after that.
Here’s to world domination, just pennies at a time.
